SLEEVELESS TOP WITH COLOURED MEDALLIONS
WHAT YOU NEED:
gr. 350 'sesia baby' cotton, of which:
gr. 150 aubergine colour and gr. 50 for each of the following colours:
gold, orange, red and aviation blue,
a crochet hook nr 3.
The sleeveless top is made up of 48 entire medallions and of 4 half medallions, that have been worked separately and stitched together afterwards, as indicated.
ENTIRE MEDALLIONS
Start a chain with aubergine-coloured cotton and complete 8 stitches; work the chain in a round and close it with 1 slip stitch in the 1st of the same and work in the small ring you have thus obtained, following scheme 1 and repeating the given part for 6 times. Replace the 1st treble stitch of the 1st row with 4 chains, the 1st buttonhole of the 2nd row and the 1st double stitch of the 3rd row with 3 chains each. Finish each row with 1 slip stitch in the starting stitch of the row, then cut the yarn and secure it inside the starting stitch of the following row, on the right side of your work. Work the 1st and the 3rd rows with aubergine colour and the 2nd row with gold yarn. Work 1 cluster stitch (inserting the hook inside the underlying ring and drawing out 1 buttonhole by pulling the yarn upwards for about 1.5 cm, and then yarning over the hook); repeat the part given in the brackets twice again, draw out 1 buttonhole as previously described, yarn over the hook and draw the yarn through all the stitches on the hook. After working the 3rd row, cut the yarn and secure it on to the work. Complete other 11 medallions in the same way.
Work the remaining 36 medallions as previously described, but change the colour of the 2nd row: complete 12 medallions with the 2nd row in orange cotton, 12 with the 2nd row in red cotton and 12 with the 2nd row in aviation blue cotton.
HALF MEDALLIONS
Start a chain with aubergine-coloured cotton and complete 8 stitches, finish it in a round with 1 slip stitch in the 1st of the same and work in the small ring you have obtained, following scheme 2 according to the indications given for the entire medallion. At the end of each row, cut the yarn and secure it in the starting stitch of the following row, on the right side of the work. Complete the 1st and the 3rd row in aubergine colour cotton and the 2nd row in orange cotton. Work 4 half medallions in this way: 2 of them with the 2nd row in orange cotton and 2 with the 2nd row in aviation blue cotton.
THE MAKING
Stitch the medallions together with blind stitch, along one or more sides, following the arrangement indicated in scheme 3, and placing the colours at pleasure or as given in the picture; then finish the sleeveless top in the round by stitching the side, along the parts indicated in the scheme by a broken line.
Stitch the shoulders together, by joining the sides of the medallions indicated by letter A and by letter B. Finish off the borders with aubergine cotton to work a row of single crochet and 1 row of back single crochet, that is a single crochet edging worked from left to right.
